Kieran Clarke: ‘Still recovering, but my racing career is probably over’

The Englishman looking forward to new beginnings after horrible trackday crash.

Six months after his almost fatal trackday accident at Donington Park, Kieran Clarke is still recovering from the multiple injuries sustained. The 30-year-old Briton was on the ridge between life and death, eventually making it through the night despite doctors’ concern about his survival. His recovery was not easy either, as Clarke underwent many surgeries with complications.

The former CIA Landlords Insurance Honda rider is now fine and recovering well, despite his health conditions still being far from ideal. “Unfortunately, the situation with my kidneys is still pretty serious, any sort of impact or trauma could cause an instant blood clot. Every day feels like Groundhog Day! So boring.”

With his racing career being almost certainly over by his own admission, Clarke still hopes to continue to resume his movie stuntman work next year, if his fitness condition will allow him to.

“We didn’t realise all of my injuries but I was over a month in hospital with lots of surgeries and complications,” he added. “There is a chance I'll make a full recovery but it’s going to take a long time. I cannot complain as they did not expect me to make it through the night - I was that critical. On a more positive note, I've got a couple of movies next year as a stuntman that I'm hoping I am going to be ready for. At the moment, it's looking 90% certain this crash has retired me from competition, very upsetting but I’m also very fortunate for how things went in the end.”
